April 6, 2020 at 2:28 pmI got my BFP yesterday though I had been seeing progressively darker lines (Fairhaven test strips) for a handful of days. I’m 17dpo and am pretty sure I ovulated on CD 14, and have what could been implantation dip on 11dpo so pretty average, I think? I’m grateful for the information I’ve been able to learn from FAM and reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and I’m so confused as to why my doctor immediately counts me as 4 weeks pregnant. She wants me to come in for my 8week appointment in a month, which would really be more like 6 weeks. I quickly saw that most typical due date calculation methods agree. Is there something I’m missing? I understand if my likely ovulation was at a less average time in my cycle but day 14 is supposed to be what the pregnancy wheel is based on.
Should I request an appointment more realistically at 7 or 8 weeks or just do what they suggest? With Covid I’d rather wait longer, especially if it also makes sense. I also don’t yet have a relationship with my current (new)Obgyn, and have a lot to look into about that, I guess.
Thank you for any suggestions!
Also just a note about my situation for those TTC- I am so surprised by my BFP! I have been trying and so worried about a number of things- I’m no spring chicken, I have a history of cysts (possible endo), my cycle took 5ish months to settle after coming off the pill and is 24 or 25 days, verging on short, and for all this and a few other reasons I switched docs and was planning to do some testing soon- then Covid happened. So that was gonna be on hold.
It can happen to you, too!

Late to the Show is correct in that doctors count your pregnancy from the time of your last period not when you ovulated. My understanding on why they do that is because most women aren't tracking ovulation and don't know when they got pregnant so your last period is the marker they use. I would follow your OB-GYNs recommendations on when they want you to come in.
Congrats again! So happy for you!

14dpo and just got my first BFP. Now I'm trying to calculate how many weeks I am..
I have a 35 day cycle, ovulating on CD 22 so am unsure how many weeks I am. If I go by what Dr's generally do then I am 5 weeks (last period on Sep 17).

If any women who have had a baby can comment on that as well, that would be helpful!
Congrats on the BFP!!

I wouldn’t worry too much about calculating your weeks right now. In your first visit to your doctor they will ask the day of your last period and work it from there (be sure to mention your longer cycles), but then when you go for your first/dating scan they can get pretty accurate with gestational age from that. They will update your Estimated Due Date (EDD) at that point.
Good luck!

If you want to know to modify what week you're reading on websites before you see the doctor, I'd call 14dpo about 4 weeks pregnant and your baby would be in that state of development.
