September 16, 2020 at 4:20 pmhi! i’m very new to FAM & i’m a little worried i might be pregnant. i haven’t been able to observe cervical fluid because i’ve felt discomfort & have had abnormal discharge for a while which masks any changes in it. i planned on going to the gyno after traveling for a month to get it sorted out. now im realizing when i got my period september 3 my temps remained high and looking at my chart they’re all over the place. i am not sure if i ovulated this month or if im pregnant or what - i got my iud removed around august 10th after having it for 4 years. i’ve been bloated for a couple days now and i had cramps in my lower back & stomach. i’d love some insight if anyone has any - i guess i’m mostly concerned about my temps not showing an obvious shift. is this indicative of pregnancy?

September 17, 2020 at 10:51 amYou need to firstly have 3-4 days of raised temps to confirm that you’ve ovulated, which you don’t have as yet, so it would be good to keep temping. Then generally if your temps are raised for longer than your usual luteal phase then there is the possibility if pregnancy. With an early pregnancy testing kit you can test from 9 days past ovulation. It varies from woman to woman though, and as you’ve just had the IUD removed then you may not yet have a regular cycle. I often have quite crazy temp fluctuations - they can be affected by a hot room, the window open etc. But I can still see a clear thermal shift when ovulation happens in my chart. My temps also remain raised during my period, but I think that just differs from woman to woman again, so isn’t indicative of pregnancy.

mgfam, BBT is retroactive so a thermal shift isn't going to show until about 4 days after your temp rise. And as gemsie said, a chart wouldn't indicate pregnancy until a few days after your longest luteal phase at which time you could also be taking pregnancy tests.

Implantation doesn't usually occur until about 7-10 days after ovulation, so you can start taking pregnancy tests arond that time. The chart is leaning on CD 15 as possible ovulation, but you will need the next 3 out of 4 days to be .4 degrees higher than CD 15.
